Webcomics.com Survey: 2013 Convention Season
Last week, I opened a survey asking members about their plans for the upcoming comic-convention season. Here are the answers — followed by a brief analysis.
How many conventions?
Most of the responses were in the 1-3 region, but a few members are planning a dozen appearances or more.
How does this compare?
11% of Webcomics.com members are staging their first convention appearance for this year. Please be sure to come back and post in the private forum describing your experiences!
The rest of you veterans, please also consider doing a search for the “Convention Dish” thread that relates to the convention you attended, and post some remarks for the rest of us to learn from.
Promotion and profit were pretty evenly split, and networking wasn’t far behind. But I’d like to know what the 5% who responded “other” have planned for their weekend. 🙂
Only 30% of the members travel more than 100 miles for a convention appearance.
43% of respondants sell merchandise they’ve already produced for their sites. Only 24% go to sell the merchandise they’ve created solely for the convention.
The most populare responses were: Hotel (32%), Share a hotel (30%), and Other (22%). I must have missed a popular choice — what was it?
Exactly half of you load that merchandise into your vehicle and haul it. Next-most popular choice? Checked luggage. This is interesting to me. The first is probably the cheapest solution, and the second is probably the most expensive.
