Jetpack adds protection against brute force attacks
Jetpack is one of Webcomics.com’s most strongly-endorsed WordPress plug-ins. It’s extremely useful. And its 3.4 upgrade just made it more so.
The new module is called Protect, and implementing it is as simple as clicking the Activate button.
If you’d like to “white list” an IP address to ensure that it never gets blocked by Jetpack, click on the Config link in the Protect module to get a dialogue box that looks like this:
It even helpfully offers your own IP address so you can easily white-list yourself.
If you want to see it in action, look at the bottom of your Jetpack stats summary. In addition to the number of spam comments that Jetpack blocked, you’ll see a number for malicious attacks that have been thwarted.
If you have Jetpack, update it. If you don’t have it, get it.
