Greeting Card Hot Seat
This is the first installment in the current Hot Seat series. This time, we’re focusing on greeting cards — including, but not limited to, holiday-cards.
As always, this is only the beginning of the discussion. Members are encouraged to share their thoughts on the matter in the comments below.
Webcomics.com member J.R. Faulkner does a new “holiday monster” card every year. In the past, she’s done cards such as “Missletoad” and “Ninjabread Men.” This year, it’s “Centaur Claus.”
I really like this illustration a lot. I wonder if the foreground would be a little more prominent if the saturation on the background were decreased a little bit. Right now, the foreground figure and the background blue are both awfully strong. And de-saturating that blue might enable Santa to stand out more.
Huge points for character design, though. The choice to go with an Old World Saint Nick character instead of a modern Santa was a smart choice. And it makes him look all the more menacing.
All in all, I think this one is a winner.
SITE NOTE: If we don’t have any more takers for this Hot Seat series, I’ll announce a new one shortly.
