Hitch It / Ditch It: El Cuervo
Noir, baby! This comic captures the mood and the attitude of noir-era storytelling absolutely beautifully. The character designs… the characterizations… the composition… it’s very, very well crafted in that respect. The linework is coming along nicely — and that’s the hardest aspect of working in this kind of genre, but overall, I think this comic brings the noir in a big way.
Web design: Black on black may be all the rage, but it really stinks in Web design. The primary background color of the Web site is solid black. Meanwhile, the comic itself makes strong use of large areas of solid black. The result is a reading experience that is (a) difficult to read at times and (b) much more flat than it needs to be.
You’re so good at spotting blacks. Don’t eliminate the effect by placing the art of a solid black background!
You could address this by decreasing the intensity of the background…
…or by changing the hue…
