Funimation’s stance on comic-convention fan art
For years, Webcomics.com has been issuing posts discussing the legality of selling art at comic conventions without the proper rights to the characters and other intellectual property.
As far back as 2011, we discussed the issue in light of the Disney/Marvel merger.
Now comes news that anime-distributor, Funimation, will begin exercising its rights as they apply to Artist Alley sales of fan art. Funimation is the largest distributor of Japanese animated products, including Dragonball Z, Akira, Attack On Titan and Cowboy Bebop.
This has lead to a flurry of misinterpretations on social media. But let’s take a closer look at what Funimation actually said.
