I’ve been sharing my experiences in creating digital downloads for tablets throughout the year. This is another in that series.
Over the summer, I started releasing a digital download at the beginning of the month that offered all of my daily comics for the upcoming month. For $3, readers could read the whole month in one sitting — or they could choose to read them one-at-a-time as they were updated on my Web site.
The response was very positive, and I learned a few things along the way.

Having spent the summer establishing a monthly digital comic, I’ve decided to try to extend my reach.

Same rules as always. I look at the comic and discuss one thing I think you’re doing really well, and one thing that you could improve. Then I open up the discussion to the members. Links are in the headers.

Having discussed a strategy for auctioning off the first Artist Edition when launching a new book, it came to my attention that “Artist Edition” wasn’t necessarily a universal term.

When I released my sixth Evil Inc graphic novel last year, I distinctly remember doing the first Artist Edition and thinking: “Hey, I’ll bet some of my more fervent fans would pay extra to have the first Artist Edition of the new book. Next time I release a new graphic novel, I think I’ll put it on eBay and offer it auction-style to the highest bidder.”

So often, we webcartoonists are called upon to do things that are so far outside our comfort zones. Like add HTML code or update a CSS script.

Hitch It / Ditch It Hot Seat: The rules are simple. I go to your site and poke around. I share one thing that I thing you’re doing great, and one thing I think could be improved. I post ’em here, and then I open up the discussion to the members at large.

I had to ask myself that question today.
City of Heroes is an online role-playing game, and I’m familiar with it primarily because my readers sometimes ask if I play. I don’t. I tried it out about a year ago, and, although I enjoyed it, I’m seldom able to devote much time to that sort of stuff — especially if I want to have the time I need for my family and my career.
