Hitch it: Engaging readers
One of the core strengths of Reality Amuk is that it gives readers plenty of clear opportunities to engage in the comic/site if they see something they like. There are icons below the comic encouraging all sorts of site/comic interaction and there are links above the comic that offer even more options.

Hitch it: Clean Art
I like the visual appeal of Treading Ground. It’s drawn cleanly and clearly. The panel compositions usually work well, and the coloring is executed in a very smart way. I really like how this comic connects with the reader through its visuals.

Meatshield
Hitch It: Typography
The word balloons in MeatShield are very graceful, and they fit deftly into the panel compositions. This isn’t damning with faint praise. Word balloons are deceptively difficult, and an awful lot of webcomics suffer from crappy balloons. This is a comic that does word balloons right. The content you are trying to access is only available to members.
Hitch it: Visual Storytelling
I love how Adam uses camera angles and gestures to provide meaning — even subtext — to the story. Reading the comic is very cinematic in feel, and I think the story gets a boost as a result.

I’d like to open up a discussion about Google+. As I tweeted earlier this week, I’m convinced that it’s going to be the Next Big Thing because I have absolutely no idea what to do with it.
And neither does anybody else, it seems.

As small businesspeople (or, more flatteringly, people who manage small businesses) most of us fall into the legal category of a sole proprietor. And, for most of us, the sole proprietorship is the easiest and most advantageous structure for our businesses to be run under. After all, we’re not generating the income or taking the risks that would cause us to structure our businesses as LLCs or corporations.

If I ever stop making mistakes, I may run out of stuff to write for this site.
So there I was, finishing up some inking in my studio Friday. A nasty electrical storm swept through the area, and my first thought was: This is going to make picking up the kids from summer camp especially tricky.
And my second thought was: I wonder if I should unplug my computer?

Q.: I’ve begun work in preparation to print my first book. I’m planning to go through a Print On Demand service for now, as I’m still building my own fanbase. However, like most of us, I’m planning towards the day when I can print bulk through a publisher. When (if) that day arrives I’d like to go back and reprint this first book in bulk as well. What I’m worried about is whether this creates problems I might not be aware of now. Some issues I’ve managed to dream up already involve having to get a new UPC or even change/alter the book because of publishers having some sort of exclusive rights to a specific proof I supply. I realize this would require a contract which I don’t -think- PoD demands but I’d rather ask what seems a silly question now then suffer for a lack of knowledge later. Are these real concerns, or am I way of track?

In the past two months we’ve discussed tracking con inventory and we’ve talked about processing credit card transactions at conventions. And now, thanks to Square, it looks as if there might be a way to kill two birds with one stone.
