I’m making a renewed effort to share the topics, discussions and benefits of this site through Twitter. If you’d like to receive updates, please follow @Webcomicscom. And if you encourage your followers to follow as well, you’ll be doing me a big favor in spreading the word about this site.
This is the fourth installment of this year’s Hitch It / Ditch It Hot Seat critique series. The concept is straight-forward: I identify one element in the participant’s comic that is working really well, and then I identify something that needs to be improved. As always, this is only the start of the conversation — the discussion continues in the Comments section below. Links are in the headers.

SendOwl has announced the adding of a pay-what-you-want feature, similar to that offered by their competitor Gumroad.
According to their press release, this is merely the first of several new features they have planned.
I strongly endorse both SendOwl and Gumroad for digital distribution.
Now that my Kickstarter backers have received access codes for their digital versions of the classic How To Make Webcomics book, I’m offering it to Webcomics.com members for 50% off!
For the first time ever, you can get a digital version of this book for your iPad, Kindle Fire or other digital tablet!
If you want a 50%-off access code, please put your name and e-mail address in the Comments below.
After buying Wibiya in April 2011 for a reported $45 million, Conduit is folding the Web-app platform at the end of the year.
I endorsed Wibiya in June 2010. I thought it was particularly strong tool for non-WordPress users to add social-media functionality to their sites. Since converting to a Comic Easel/WordPress CMS, I’ve substituted JetPack for this functionality.
Nonetheless, if you’re using Wibiya, you can write Libbie@wibiya.com for information on exporting your data from your dashboard in a CSV file.

This is a time when creativity seems to be at an all-time high everywhere you look. From carved pumpkins to costumes to haunted houses to the really scary stuff like, well…

Q: I started reading webcomics about 5 months ago with ink outbreak.com, and have been keeping up to date with them since. As I am switching my idea of making a printed comic to now making a comic that I would post online I wanted to ask, What do you think of websites like inkoutbreak.com? Do you think they are a good stepping stone for getting people into webcomics? I only found them through a friends link on Facebook, and before that I only really read comics on imgur or 9gag type sites. I would say my concern as an artist is telling someone to go to someone else’s site to view my site. What’s your thoughts?
I read about 30 webcomics, and have now started backing projects and buying webcomic “merch”. I also ended up backing the indiegogo for inkoutbreak but was a bit thrown back that there were no reader rewards that were any good. I guess the site is its own reward? Do you think its better or worse that people read so many webcomics?

This is a great time to start thinking about offering Christmas cards to your readers.
Start brainstorming ideas now for a few holiday ideas, polish them up and work on the art. There are a number of online printers (see the link above) who have done great jobs printing high-quality cards. You’ll also want to plan for shipping, so check out Uline for packaging options.
Given the recent retail trend towards offering Christmas merchandise in October, your competition is going to be on the shelves in a couple weeks (if not already). Get yours out on your Web site soon!
