This piece was generously submitted by Armando Valenzuela, whose comic, Atomic Landromat, is published in English and Spanish.
There are many good reasons for creating a version of your comic in a different language, which Brad covered in a previous article. This article covers some thoughts and pointers to consider if you have the skills to carry out this translation yourself, because you have, over the course of your life, picked up a second (or third or fourth) language.

As a follow-up to last week’s poll on buffers, I’d like to gauge members’ feelings about their buffers. Results to be posted Friday.
Please do not respond to the poll more than once.

According to last week’s Webcomics.com poll, over 50% of the respondents had zero updates in their comic’s buffer. The next largest group had one update, but that was only 10% of the respondents. The complete results are below.

Wizard magazine and ToyFare, both published by Wizard Entertainment, have been closed down. Gareb Shamus has announced the launching of a new, public company, Wizard World, Inc., which will front a digital magazine, “Wizard World,” and a 12-city comic-convention tour. The press release is below.

Insurance, the saying goes, is making a bet that something bad is going to happen… and hoping you lose.
Nonetheless, if you’re going to move forward in your role as an independent businessperson, it’s worth a quick call to your insurance agent to discuss coverage where it pertains to your comic.

One of the strengths of webcomics is the ability to transcend geographic limitations. Add in the fact that Asia is booming with new Internet users (most of whom use smartphones as their primary interface, incidentally), and you have the globalization of comics.
So when you’re approached about a version of your comic translated into another language, it’s a no-brainer, right?

Over the past few years, several attempts have been made to establish Official webcomic awards. The Web Cartoonists’ Choice Awards ran from 2001 to 2008. More recently, The Webcomic List Awards and the Riffys have arisen to try to fill a perceived void in self-congratulation.
Of course, none of these awards have the gravitas that a site like Webcomics.com brings, so I’ve decided to host the first annual Webcomics.com Awards.

Q. You start off the “How To Make Webcomics” book briefly touching on the attribute that a lot of artists seem to have. It’s the “I’m not good enough” syndrome. Well after battling this through my life I set it aside to start the webcomic but now I find it creeping back again. I draw a strip and immediately want to redraw it knowing that I can do better.
How have you guys gotten past this and when do you know that the strip is ready to publish?

In this thread, a member suggested I attempt to gather some statistical information about webcomics from the perspective of the members of this site, and I think it’s an awesome idea. I will try to make this a regular feature of the site. I’ll leave the poll open until Friday, and then publish the results next Monday.
