Accepting donations on your site is a fairly well-accepted practice for most cartoonists. But if you’re going to ask for money, many people argue, why not offer something in return? It stands to reason that this is not only polite, but it would increase the total number of donations. Offering a downloadable desktop wallpaper is an awesome way to encourage donations. The wallpaper itself is merely a JPEG that users will download and install on their computers. Plus, it’s a nice bit of promotion for your site. Luckily, PayPal makes this extremely easy.

Evidently, it’s all in the translation. As part of the comments to an earlier post about the webcomics-related panels at New York Comic Con, Scott wrote:
I know that so far the most successful webcomics have been the gag-a-day strips, but I wish there could be more representation for long-form comics stories. The new Diamond rules are going to drive many long-form creators to the web, and I think we could all benefit from some discussion specific to our situation.

Here’s some advice that I got from Bill Barnes through Dave Kellett.
When you’re exhibiting at a comic convention, don’t pass up an excellent opportunity for community building: Bring your camera. Photos of your convention appearance make for nice bonus content for your readers, but more importantly, you should be taking photos of people who bought your merchandise standing proudly with their newly gotten gains
